 The history of the kukri is very rich. For example, the japanese-style chef knife, the santuko, has this format. Their primary benefits are that they hold an edge much longer than any steel, and that they are completely non-corrosive. The chopping ability of the kukri, the chopping/slashing/slicing ability of the atak, and the slicing ability of the afck are due in part to belly angles. It is similar to 5160 though it has around 1% carbon versus 5160 point six percent, but holds an edge better.
