EDC with good looks
ROSH (Japan) 5/6/2013 2:45 AM
The Defender has G-10 on one side only; the other is bare titanium. Overall, the Defender is a thinner knife. To give a comparison, the G-10 is a little thicker than the HEST but thinner than the Typhoon. Overall, the knife feels comfortable and a little more surface are than the SR1-A. The texture of the G-10 grips well but is a little irritating at the top where it contact the inside of the thumb/palm. Also, the flipper has edges which are not rounded as much as I'd like them and it ends up being a little uncomfortable with blade locked out. After I took sandpaper to the handle spine and a belt grinder to round the flipper, this knife has almost no flaws. The good aspects of this knife are many. The blade steel and shape are excellent. It's the same thickness as the Typhoon which is thinner than an SR-1 and HEST. The full width of the blade is pulled back near the spine which makes this a great slicer. The choil is a little larger than a Typhoon or Deer Hunter which makes it easy to choke up and control the blade for fine cutting. The pocket clip is the same size of all Dendra knives which is a little smaller than a HEST but considerably larger than the SR-1 clips. It's easy to manage in the pocket. The lock-up is solid but the RotoBlock serves as a great insurance policy. Overall, this knife is very good. After the sanding, it is great. Because one side is entirely G-10, I'm not ready to put it through hard use although I'm sure it can take some. It is highly recommended for a solid and good looking EDC. It's an ideal match for a fixed blade in the field as well! Well done, Lion Steel.
