The ESEE Avispa line of folders is designed by Jeff Randal and Mike Perrin. It features a drop point, full flat grounded plain edged AUS-8 stainless steel blade 3.5” long and 0.11” thick. It is not a big killer but it does pack quite a sting hence the name Avispa which is Spanish for Wasp. It weighs a mere 4.4 ounces which means you will barely feel it in your pocket. This makes it a perfect everyday carry knife that can definitely double as a self-defense knife. It is easy to conceal and carry, it has a crazy sharp edge right out of the box, and it’s light.

The ESEE Avispa blade is made from AUS-8 stainless steel with a drop point tip and some jimping at the spine. It bears the Randall Adventure and Training School of Survival logo and comes with a black powder coated or satin finish. Either way, considering the fact that the blade is indeed stainless steel, you can expect it to have very good corrosion resistance properties and being an AUS-8, you can expect it to hold that crazy sharp edge for a very long time. The Avispa has a plain and a relatively straight edge which makes it ideal for everyday use and the drop point gives you that strong tip in case you need to pierce something. The blade looks quite simple but it does require a great deal of respect.

Handle The handle of the ESEE Avispa is relatively thin at 0.36”. This is mainly due to the fact that it does not have an additional handle scale common for folders that wants to look sturdier than they really are. The Avispa does not have to pretend when it comes to sturdiness because although it has a thin handle, it does house a stainless steel frame lock inside its fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN). Another feature of the Avispa handle is its ergonomic shape that makes it quite comfortable to grip even at extended amount of time. The reversible pocket clip simply completes the package for the ESEE Avispa.

Not everyone wants a Rambo knife but you don’t want something that looks like a nail file. At the end of the day, EDC knives are about functionality and the ESEE Avispa is well-equipped for that job.
