Spyderco Folders

Knives are not just slicing tools. Today, they have transitioned into something of an everyday utility tool that more and more are carrying. There was a time when most non-fixed blades were mostly butterfly knives or some weak folding knife that you cannot rely to stay open when you need it to be. But today, one of every five men has a knife for everyday utility. Whether it is for self-defense or simply to cut delivery boxes open in the office, concealed carry knives have been accepted and loved by the general public. With the ages, better knives have been developed for concealed carry and these are known as folding knives or more affectionately called folders. These knives have a blade that is around three inches long and are clipped to pockets or belts. There are various types of materials used from affordable blades for more general use to premium ones for more heavy duty tasks. The combination of various folding knife elements seems endless but one thing is for certain, people want quality and dependability from their folders.

This is where Spyderco comes in and truly shine. Spyderco have been designing and developing folders since its first ever knife, the C01 designed by the founder of the company itself, Sal Glesser. His son, Eric Glesser, has followed his footsteps and joined the family business. The father and son team designed and developed many folders that not only looked and felt good, but pushed the boundaries of the technology and design of the time. This has become the mantra of Spyderco. Spyderco was also one of the first knife companies that incorporated independent custom knife makers in designing some of their folders. These collaborations have resulted in various knives that are both enjoyed and appreciated by the knife-loving community. This Colorado-based company has also continually pushed the envelope when it comes to technology and conventional knowledge creating bolder designs and unique ergonomics. Using nothing but the best like high-end steels for their blades, lightweight but strong handles, and technologically dependable locking systems, it is not hard to imagine why Spyderco knives are some of the most sought after knives in the market today. With that Spyder hole, anybody in the knife world can recognize quality from a mile away.

Spyderco has been told their knives are different, peculiar, even out there. All true. Spyderco is definitely out of the norm in the knife industry in our dedication to researching and developing fresh, improved and better performing materials all with function and reliability being key. Someone once said to Sal Glesser, Spyderco's owner, "You must design in the dark because your knives look so strange." True again. Spyderco recognizable appearance is a result of designing ergonomic functional tools rather than applying lipstick and nylons to a pocketknife. Making knives that consistently deliver reliable high-performance requires an ongoing commitment to testing. In Spyderco testing facility they examine edge retention with a CATRA machine, look for rust development with Q-FOG, check the force needed to open and close a knife. Also repeatedly test for stress, wear, optimal heat-treating and actively search for higher quality, performance enhancing steels and materials.
