What distinguishes a Swedish knife? Perhaps the apparently simple design or maybe providing a good and safe function, all without frills. The classic clean lines discern a philosophy that honours the skill and experience of the mind, where the tool is allowed to play its part but to outshine the one that holds the handle – the perfect combination. So it is with Jarl and Juni, our new sheath knives. Handles of rich curly birch, solid nickel silver fittings and sharp blades of laminate powder steel. The world’s best, in our opinion. Open, low hanging black leather sheath, for easy access.

Juni – is the Swedish name for Juno, the premium goddess in the Roman mythology (Hera in Greece myths). Married to Jupiter (Zeus in Greece myths), she is associated to married women, life giving and childbirth. Juno gave name to the summer month Juni (Swedish) or June (English). In Sweden, Juni is a traditional female name, not very common – but beautiful, reminding about flourishing summer meads.

Laminate steel – why?

Fallkniven is using a laminate steel because such a steel is at least 20 % stronger than a solid stainless steel. Designing a survival knife you always have to consider about the strength of the knife since you might be forced to use the knife beyond standards. Usually they go for strong low/medium carbon stainless steel for the outer layers and add VG10, Cobalt-Special or Super Gold Powder Steel as a center steel. The 420J2 is a low-carbon high chromium alloy steel and they are using that because of its strength and its almost corrosion-free properties. They're using VG2 stainless steel as well and, with a higher carbon content, the VG2 steel is less scratch sensitive than the 420J2, a little stronger but also more expensive and tougher to work.

The different Type of steel Fallkniven uses:
